Rhetoric vs. Reality

Donald Trump addressed Congress on Tuesday night and once again made the statements and promises aligned with those he made during his campaign. Based on his perceived policies, the market has been on a tear since his election. But will his rhetoric become reality?

As history has shown us time and again, spoken words, while often impactful, are no match for action. President Trump is running into hurdles with many of his campaign promises, including his repeal and replacement of Obamacare, and building a wall along our southern border. While it remains to be seen what the end result of these current political battles will be, one thing is for sure – they won’t be as easy as President Trump’s rhetoric implied while he was on the campaign trail.

The bottom line is that the only certain thing in life is uncertainty. And the current political environment certainly proves that. While the markets have been rising since the election, there is no guarantee that will continue.

Our two cents is this: brace for volatility in the markets, and now, more than ever, remain disciplined and focused on your long-term goals. At McCabe & Associates, we are working diligently to constantly review and rebalance your portfolios to remain in line with your risk tolerance and goals, and to do diversify them appropriately to help protect you from market risk and other risks outside our control.

Rest assured, we have your best interest at heart when we work with you to make decisions about your financial future. If you have any concerns, please feel free to contact us.
