A Historical Study on Elections

by | Nov 10, 2016

The months leading up to and the days following this week’s election have been full of emotion and passion. We realize that many people have their minds on what the results may mean for their families and for their finances.

At McCabe & Associates, our mission is to help our clients block out the white noise they hear day-to-day, so they can remain focused on long-term investment goals. According to historical performance, the market does not favor either party, and will make its movements regardless of who is in office. While past performance does not guarantee future results, historical studies can provide us with some comfort, knowing that if we remain focused on the future, we can keep moving forward and continue to move toward our goals.

While the futures market experienced some volatility immediately following the election, things improved significantly throughout the first day after the vote.

We’d like to provide you with a study provided by American Funds that outlines how the market has performed under each sitting president.
